Personal Information

I am How Peng Kooi, come from Malaysia, I was diagnosed with advanced nasopharyngeal cancer with metastasis to bilateral cervical lymph nodes. Primary nasopharynx tumor was about 6*4cm; the left cervical tumor was 7*8cm and the right was 13*9cm. In Oct. 2016, I was admitted to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou and took 5 sessions of interventional therapy. Now, with remarkable therapeutic effects, my nasopharynx tumor has shrunk by 60% and both cervical tumors have been disappeared completely.
💥It all started with a small amount of blood streak in saliva in May, 2014. I went to a local hospital and doctor told me that I was ok since it was just a slight injury in my throat. It never came crossed my mind that it might be cancer. However, this symptom wasn’t relieved but aggravated. My wife had a gut feeling that something was wrong and advised me to see ENT (ear, nose, and throat department) doctor. Through CT scan and biopsy, it turned out to be a malignant tumor in my nasopharynx. As an optimistic person, I didn’t fear the diagnosis. When I know it was nasopharyngeal cancer, I wasn’t afraid. For me, cancer is not a serious disease, because everyone has cancer cells in body. Attitude is the key to face with cancer, so I accepted it positively.
💥Malaysian doctor advised me to take traditional chemotherapy, but I refused. In Malaysia, the hospital only has ordinary chemotherapy which can kill normal cells and bring a lot of side effects. Subsequently, recommended by my friend, I heard of a medicine that could boost immunity to kill cancer without any side effects. All of my families strongly opposed me to take that medicine since it was not backed up by any scientific evidence and was not tested. They persuaded me to take western medicine instead. However, I persisted on my own view, so my families had no other way to change my mind but to obey my choice.
💥I kept taking the medicine for a year which brought me undesirable effects, It deteriorated my condition more that I became thinner each day and got 2 bumps in both side of my neck, growing gradually and with discharging pus and had experiences of difficulty in speaking and eating.
🌺It was so much suffering for me and my families as the condition worsened until a new hope came abruptly. In Oct. 2016, my sister-in-law searched out the Facebook of St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital where it showed several cancer patients’ cases and minimally invasive treatment effect. At that time, the hospital held anticancer symposium in Malaysia, so she registered and attended. After it, she strongly recommended me to have a try on minimally invasive treatment. As stubborn as before, it wasn’t so convincing to me and finally through my sister in law’s strong persuasion and for my love for my wife that I began to change my view. I was determined to take treatment in China and took it as a travel with my beloved.
🌺In Oct. 13, 2016, I arrived at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou in my wheelchairs with my wife. At that time, I was in advanced stage and only weighted 39kg. With nearly 1.7 meters tall, I was skinny and fragile. My nasopharynx tumor had grown to 6*4cm; the left cervical tumor was 7*8cm and the right was 13*9cm. I couldn’t walk, speak clearly and eat normally.
🌺Dr. Liang Feilv and Dr. Hu Xiliu assessed me who has severe malnutrition, which is also called cachexia state. It is a sign that advanced cancer patient become extremely emaciated and wore away gradually. Emaciation is one of the remarkable features among cancer patients. According to statistics, about half of cancer patients are afflicted by cachexia, and the 10% to 25% died of it. There are 2 reasons that cause cachexia. On the one side, tumor becomes over-grown and metastasizes to other parts of organs, which will consume a lot of nutrition. On the other side, in advanced stage, some of cancer patients will lose appetite or be unable to eat, making them deficient in nutrition. In addition, cachexia reduces muscles and their activity, meanwhile destroy patient’s immune system, so cancer cells are so easy to spread and proliferate. Under this situation, if I was given anticancer therapy, my body would not go through.
Professional multidisciplinary team (MDT) customized a reasonable therapy programme and arranged treatments for me in right time. Instead of performing anticancer therapy for me, MDT gave me natural therapies to strengthen my body resistance in the first month of treatment, including traditional Chinese medicine, nutritional therapy, etc. After that, I got improvement with better appetite and sleep, increase of protein and immunity to prepare me for the procedures. Minimally invasive therapy has advantages of few side effects, small wound, no-surgery, quick recovery, to name a few.
🌺2-3 days after the first session of interventional therapy, I found out my cervical tumors shrunk obviously without any side effects. After the second session of interventional therapy, tumors on both sides of neck have disappeared completely. So far, I have visited MCHG for 4 times and took 5 sessions of interventional therapy in 10 weeks. With remarkable effect, I have increased weight from 39kg to 55kg and I am able to walk normally without wheelchairs and has good mental state, good appetite and sleep every day. My nasopharyngeal tumor has shrunk by 60%.
🌺I was so satisfied with treatments and medical service in MCHG. I feel like at home here. The doctors and nurses are so professional and considerate. The hospital environment is cozy. I really recommend interventional therapy which directly injects anticancer drugs into cancer area to kill cancer cells accurately and effectively without any side effects for me. Besides, I also find that many patients were in bad condition in their first time of hospitalization here, but after once or twice treatment they become much better. This hospital is worth trusting.
🌺I specially thanked my beloved wife and an Indian master. My Indian master is like God. He always tells me I will be fine, making me confident. During hospital life, I often feel that he is always by my side, so I never have pain. I am so grateful to him.

Testimonial: Optimistic attitude towards cancer, I can do it. You can do it!

NG MAN HONG, Malaysian, had his own fruit shop and ran the business dedicatedly. He never felt any other discomfort except two 2cm lumps on the neck. Thereupon, he came to hospital for medical examination, and only to be diagnosed as nasopharyngeal cancer stage 2. The suddenly bad news made him overwhelmed. However, he still kept an optimistic attitude.

After the exact diagnosis given, chemotherapy was recommended for. Considering the suddenness, he had second thoughts for better treatment options rather than chemo. Then he thought of one of his relatives, an 80-year-old cancer patient, who recovered well after treatments in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. To learn more about cancer treatment, NG MAN HONG visited her specifically. With her age and medical history, she can still ride around. Seeing this, NG MAN HONG strengthened his confidence for treatment in MCHG.

Thus, NG MAN HONG came to Kuala Lumpur office for more details. After a face to face consultation with Doc. Xu in KL office, he applied a visa to Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou immediately, launching a foreign anti-cancer journey.

On May 13, 2016, NG MAN HONG arrived at MCHG, accompanied by his wife. After a few tests, MDT of MCHG recommended interventional therapy for him based on the test results. Interventional therapy is one of minimally invasive therapies guided by DSA imaging machines, which only needs a 2mm incision (puncture point) without operation. Moreover, anti-cancer drugs have a direct effect on cancer cells, which successfully increase the drug concentration on specific lesion, and reduce dosage and side effects meanwhile.

Gratefully, only one time of interventional therapy performed, NG MAN HONG’s situation got significant improvement, 80% of tumor disappeared without side effects like vomiting, hair loss, merely poor appetite showed. However, his appetite gradually improved after a few days. Currently, he is in a stable situation. He continues his own business as soon as returns to Malaysia.

According to NG MAN HONG, MCHG has personalized medical procedures which vary from that in Malaysia. In Malaysia, a settled doctor takes charge of patient’s case from beginning to end. But here in MCHG, a MDT works together for examinations and treatment plan, which make him assured. MCHG has a multidisciplinary team of experts, who hold together for developing an appropriate comprehensive treatment plan for patients, striving to bring patients the best therapeutic effect.

Personal Information

My name is CHAI SOOK LENG from Malaysia. More than a year ago, I had no obvious symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer except for stuffy nose which I did not care much about. Later, I found a little slump on my neck, and went to hospital for physical check. After the check, the local doctor confirmed that I had nasopharyngeal cancer with metastasis of lymph. On hearing this unexpected news, I could not totally accept. My world immediately became dark, and I did not know how my life would be from then on.

At that time, the doctor suggested me get chemotherapy, and I agreed with that. Then I had six sessions of chemotherapy. During the treatment, it was so suffering that I could not eat and sleep. What’s more, I kept vomiting for 31 days. As you could see, the side effect was great and the therapeutic effect was not so good.

The pain of chemotherapy made me have a thought of giving up. Every time I wanted to give up, my little grandson showed up to support me. I have five children and two grandsons. One of my grandsons was four years old, and the other was one year old. Among them, my one-year-old little grandson was the closest to me. He was unwilling to go back home to sleep if he did not see me. Therefore it was so difficult for him without me. It was him that encouraged me and supported me. And he became a driving force for me to fight against cancer.

The effect of chemotherapy was not so ideal, and the tumor on my neck became bigger and bigger. I could not tolerate chemotherapy any more. Thus, I began to find other more suitable therapies everywhere.

By chance I saw the report of Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou from Sin Chew Daily and China Press which gave a good introduction of the minimally invasive therapy and the medical team in the hospital. And then I got to know more about the hospital and found that I still had a hope. I must go to Guangzhou for treatment. I had spent all of my savings on chemotherapy, but for my little grandson and my family, I could not give up. Hence, bit by bit, I borrowed money from my relatives, friends and colleagues to take cancer treatment in China.

On June 30, 2015, accompanied by my wife, I came to Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. The MDT(multidisciplinary team) made a treatment plan according to my illness and physical condition. They said that cryotherapy was the most suitable for me. I trusted them and was willing to accept that. At present, I got cryotherapy once and felt good. I still remembered that I was not afraid entering the operating room, where the procedure roughly lasted for about one hour, but seemed like just a little while pasted after the anesthesia. After that, I felt slightly pain which was gone after three days. Besides, there were no other discomforts. The chemotherapy that I got before reached to the whole body by vein. But this minimally invasive cryotherapy aimed at the tumor, which I thought would have a better therapeutic effect. Now, I had good appetite and sleep, and I could immediately eat and walk after the therapy. I felt much better.

Compared with the hospital in Malaysia, Modern Cancer Hospital was more advanced and more modern. The doctors and nurses there were so nice, considerate and warmhearted. I felt warm and cozy here. What’s more, they arranged trips regularly for us to sightsee around Guangzhou together and to learn about the local customs. It was our first time to be in Guangzhou, so we were so happy that the hospital held these activities and we were willing to participate in. I believed that Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou was a suitable hospital for me to get treatment. And I believed that Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou was my last hope.

Interventional Therapy Made Me Take a New Lease of Life

“For Families, for Friends, I Have to Live!”—- LIAU CHUNG YEE

“My wish is to stay with my families much longer. Also I want to gather with my friends and colleagues. Staying with them is a kind of happiness.” To LIAU CHUNG YEE, happiness is simple because he just went through a life challenge.

However, the simple happiness was the extravagant hope to him four years ago.

Cancer Suddenly Intruded His Body

On December, 2011, LIAU CHUNG YEE found 4×3cm lymph node in his left side of neck. With the company of families, he took some tests in Malaysian hospital but the result showed that he got nasopharyngeal cancer, which made his whole families panic-stricken. LIAU CHUNG YEE was confused why he got cancer. He had no bad habit and he loved sport and was awarded in taekwondo many times. Though he hesitated to take radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which the Malaysian doctors suggested, he finally accepted their medical suggestion.

Talking with the fear of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, LIAU CHUNG YEE said chemotherapy and radiotherapy brought a lot of side effects. I knew seven or eight patients. Though they took chemotherapy, their condition was not improved but aggravated. Worse, they can not lie down and had difficulties to eat and sleep with the declining weight. The unsatisfied therapeutic effect and the deteriorating condition made him give up taking chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He just took Chinese medicine at home.

However, the condition was not improved. In March 2015, the cold aggravated LIAU CHUNG YEE’s condition with the symptoms of severe edema, difficulty in breathing and swallowing. On June 9th the test result showed that the nasopharyngeal cancer had transferred to many parts of the body. The result made his whole family depressed. LIAU CHUNG YEE thought in his mind that he wanted to be alive. His mother was old and my son was still young. I can not abandon them away. Thus, he went for better cancer treatment.

New Hope for Cancer Treatment

By chance, LIAU CHUNG YEE knew Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou on China Press and surprisingly found out that many cancer patients successfully fought against with cancer by minimally invasive therapy. First, he hesitated to take another treatment due to the bad effect in Malaysian hospital, but after further knowing Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, his doubt was removed and decided to take cancer treatment in China. On June 24th, with the company of families, LIAU CHUNG YEE arrived at Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou.

Take a New Lease of Life

LIAU CHUNG YEE’s mother said, “Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou takes care of every detail of arranging visa, airport pickup and taking cancer treatment.” This is the true feeling of her. To LIAU CHUNG YEE, the individualized medical treatment of hospital enhances the confidence. “

At present, LIAU CHUNG YEE has already taken three sessions of interventional therapy. At first, he can’t lie down, eat or sleep, but now he comes back to the normal status. LIAU CHUNG YEE is grad for making this choice. “Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou gives me a different therapeutic method. Compared with radiotherapy and chemotherapy in Malaysia, minimally invasive therapy does not bring any side effect except for feeling a little bit dizzy after taking the first session of interventional therapy. Other treatments do not bring any discomfort to me. I feel much better than before and I am confident that I can fight against with cancer.

His attending doctor, Dr. Wang, implied that his tumor was shrunk by 90%. When the water in the neck was drawn out, he goes back to normal condition.

LIAU CHUNG YEE’s mother told us that LIAU CHUNG YEE loved the food in Guangzhou. When he did not take the treatment, they went for the delicious food in Guangzhou. “Before taking the cancer treatment, I could only eat the fluid food; I can finally choose the food I like now. Thank you Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. I hope other cancer patients do not give up the treatment and cherish the life. Live with hope!” LIAU CHUNG YEE said.

Disclaimer: Operation is effective to early solid tumors, but it’s not suitable for most middle or advanced tumors. Patient with middle or advanced tumor is relatively weak, but the combination of minimally invasive therapy and chemotherapy or radiotherapy can effectively reduce the harm and side effects brought by the treatment and help patient get better efficacy.

Let’s go to Guangzhou for further treatments, as many of my cancer friends do. I know a doctor named Lin Jing who works in MCHG.” Finally, SUNG DJAN TJU took her advice and came to MCHG in July, 2009.

After a full examination, SUNG DJAN TJU was diagnosed with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma with recurrence and metastasis. Realizing the serious condition, she was so fearful, depressed and hopeless. However, with earnestly enlightenment, persuasion and consolation from her daughter, as well as MCHG medical workers, she changed attitudes towards cancer. She said: “I will give myself to God. As for the treatment effect, let nature take its course.” As a Catholic, SUNG DJAN TJU made daily prayers, reminding herself to be strong. Finally, she regained her previous optimistic attitude and cooperated with doctors actively. According to her individual condition, MDT made a final treatment plan. After two courses of consecutive interventional treatment, as well as concurrent chemo and radiotherapy, SUNG DJAN TJU’s condition improved markedly, and the tumor finally disappeared.

As an anti-cancer warrior, she had more desire for life

In May, 2014, SUNG DJAN TJU got admission for review. During her hospitalization, anticancer warrior’s activity was held in MCHG. Anticancer activity helped those patients who had no confidence for their health and no hope of life to rebuild confidence and ignite hope for the future, establishing a very positive attitude towards treatment, which proved to be significant. As a woman with strong-willed, optimistic attitude, SUNG DJAN TJU became one of the anti-cancer warriors of MCHG undoubtedly. During the activity, she communicated with other cancer patients, encouraged each other, and shared her feelings and experience. She said: “Cancer is no longer an incurable disease, as long as we are confident and perseverant, nothing can defeat us.”

Minimally invasive treatments help us to defeat cancer

When talking about SUNG DJAN TJU, who has survived from cancer by comprehensive minimally invasive treatments, the attending doctor Lin Jing also has mixed feelings. She says it is a miracle, but this kind of miracles usually happens in Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. Mostly, people hold the view that once has cancer; he/she is destined to die. But with the current medical level, cancer can no longer be defined as an incurable disease, but a chronic one. According to Lin Jing, the seven years of survival range owe to two points. Firstly, timely and standard treatment is necessary. Secondly, psychological counseling by family members and medical works from MCHG, which helped her with a relaxed, calm, brave, and confident attitude towards the treatments.

Cherish the present life and enjoy the scenery

For now, SUNG DJAN TJU has a more profound awareness of the precious life. For leisure time, she likes to travel around accompanied by her family members. So far, she has been to Malaysia, Bali, Kalimantan and many other places. To be a travel enthusiast, she wants to visit many other places after the review. “Travelling makes me optimistic and pleasurable, help me enjoying life like a normal person, I like this feeling,” she says.
